Monastery of Hagia Sophia, the Divine Wisdom, is one of the monasteries of the Religious Institute “Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara”, Incarnate Word Religious Family, that belongs to the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church and lives according to the Byzantine rite. The name “Hagia Sophia” comes from the Greek Αγία Σοφία, Holy Wisdom or Divine Wisdom with which God the Son is identified.
The Monastery of Hagia Sophia in Burshtyn consists of two religious communities: contemplative and missionary.
Contemplative sisters live like in a desert, completely separated from the world reminding that the aim of this life is not the world in itself but its Creator and Redeemer. With their prayers and testimony of life these sisters are like lightning rods of the Divine anger and magnets of His grace for the world. Contemplative community is in charge of liturgical life: these sisters sing during the Divine Liturgy, pray vespers and lauds, have two hours of adoration of the Holy Sacrament daily etc.
Missionary sisters are like hands used by the Divine Providence to accomplish His works on the earth. They work with children, youth and adults, organize the Spiritual Exercises, summer camps, conferences and other activities for the good of the souls and for strengthening of Christian values in the modern world.
Here the contemplative sisters are waiting for you to ask for their prayers.
Here the missionary sisters are ready to answer your questions about God, soul and sense of life.
HERE THEY PRAY FOR YOU AND SACRIFICE THEIR LIVES FOR YOUR SALVATION!
You are welcome to visit our Monastery in Burshtyn!
